Hello, ladies and gentlemen! Tell me, honestly, how do you feel your days go? Because when I was little, I had the idea that being a grown woman would be like this:

Uhhh...how do I put this lightly? Being a grown woman is hard. Between two part-time jobs, part-time graduate studies, nurturing a long-distance relationship, trying (and failing) to help my mother around the house, attempting to spend time with four siblings, and telling myself that this week will be the week I start growing my spiritual life, being a grown woman looks more like this:

Yeah. Luckily for Anna, for me, and for all you other ladies who don't have Rapunzel's pep, there's a book. The Fringe Hours is all about making time for yourself...so that you can be more like Rapunzel and less like Anna.

Excuse me??! Did I not just tell you about the jobs and the relationships and the siblings and the faith and the--

Hello, everybody! After a crazy beginning to 2017--2 jobs, 1 class, prepping for Valentine's Day, etc.--I'm back to blogging and reading. However, this return comes with several important notes, so please stick with me and check out what's changing this year!

First of all: for those of you following me on Booklikes, I'm going to ask you to please follow me on Wordpress: https://bloggerichey.wordpress.com/. It was brought to my attention that exporting is not supported on Booklikes, and so for professional reasons I've chosen to do much of my writing on Wordpress; no worries, book reviews and book info will still be on Booklikes, but I'd love to have you on WP as well.

Secondly: for personal reasons, I am no longer on FB or Twitter. While I don't believe that any of you have opted to follow me in that way, please be aware that I have stopped using (or will be stopping using) those social media sites, so connecting with me in that way will no longer be possible. I am still on IG (e_adele), and I encourage followers, so please feel free to follow me there; also, messages via Booklikes or WP will always be answered.

Thirdly: due to these changes, I'm reaching out to all you lovely followers to double check that you've not made any changes to your following. If you have a preference for IG/Booklikes/WP followings, let me know! I'm more than happy to follow your IG page, your Booklikes blog, or your Wordpress blog; all you have to do is ask!

Hello, world! After a long semester of grad school, I've turned in all my assignments and am back on track to share my reading with you! As of right now I have what's been read since my last log-in posted, but no reviews--those should be coming over the next couple of weeks.

I wanted to give a huge, huge shout-out to everybody who has been so kind as to follow me here on BookLikes! I cannot explain how happy it makes me when I see that I have another follower, and it gives me the greatest pleasure to get the chance to follow all of you back! :) Building a professional social network is hard, and the BookLikes community is truly a very unique place to grow with others.

Graduate school workloads are slowly starting to catch up with me, so reading has pretty much been a matter of commutes and work breaks, but I have a breather coming up! Blog is getting vamped today, and progress should be made on the two books I'm reading in the near future.

You know, everyone sings songs about Old MacDonald and his farm...and the farmer with a dog whose name was Bingo...but no one really sings a lot of songs about how Old MacDonald got his farm, or the farmer got Bingo.

Shift is the story of what happened before "E-I-E-I-O" and "B-I-N-G-O" and all of that jazz. Shift is the story of how Old MacDonald got his farm (silo included; construction required) and the farmer got Bingo.

Unfortunately for us, neither of those things came from Rural King or Oshkosh or Farm&Fleet.

Just a quick video update for you followers; I know that it seems like this place went dead throughout all of July, so this video is my explanation/apology/promise to you all.

E-I-E-I-Oh...you weren't kidding.

At some point in history, Old McDonald's farm must have not gone so well, because all he ended up with in the end was a silo. Props to whoever advised him to keep the silo, though, because it sure came in handy [spoiler] when the air got poisoned and the world became uninhabitable outside of said silo [/spoiler].

Anyhoo, Old McDonald's silo works, so all is good. Right?

Nope. [spoiler] The sheriff decides to go outside and die alongside his three-years-dead wife who went crazy. The mayor and the deputy take a looooooong trip downstairs (like, over 140 levels long) to pick out a new sheriff, and everything just goes downhill from there [/spoiler]. Do silos have any special mechanics or anything? Because this one has a bit of a problem.

Lucky for the silo, [spoiler] the new sheriff is a mechanic [/spoiler]. Juliette might not know--or care--a whole lot about politics ([spoiler] such as dealing with the all-powerful IT department [/spoiler]), but she definitely knows her way around machines.

Since Josh and Sophie Newman witnessed [spoiler] a 500-year-old magician battle a 600-year-old alchemyst, [/spoiler] a lot has changed [spoiler]. Like the fact that they now have magical fields around their bodies, extreme senses, and the ability to learn how to harness the elements [/spoiler].

Too much change? Let's slow down, then.

Everyone comes from different religious backgrounds. For those of you who have been with me since the start of this blog, you know that my particular religious background is that of a cradle-born Catholic, the daughter of two converts to the Catholic faith (one of whom has a Ph.D in Theology and has taught Theology in Catholic colleges since I was a baby); you know that my educational background has always steered toward the Catholic side, what with using Kolbe Academy as a high school program and having gone to the University of Saint Francis for my B.A.; you know that my life hasn't been a life devoid of guidance and growth in my spirituality.

This book taught me a lot.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl's Ways to Pray: Growing Closer to GOD is a good book for anybody in any walk of spiritual life. Don't be scared by the fact that this book taught a cradle Catholic with a very formative religious upbringing; whether you are like me and have been praying since you could talk, or whether you have never said a prayer in your life (or, at least, have said very few!), this book will offer you a Prayer 101 that meets you where you are.

How? How can a book meet people with very different experiences, in very different places in life and development, right where they are...right where they need to be met?
